Farewell, 2013!

What a year.

Hands down the most difficult year of my life.

I feel like I say that every year but this one takes the cake.

It wasn't all bad though.

I launched this blog on January 1, 2013 as a hobby. Something to keep

my mind occupied while my husband was serving overseas.

I didn't take it too seriously. I really wasn't expecting anyone to read it or

actually enjoy it. I just wanted to share some things that were working in

my life with some of my friends in hopes of inspiring them a little bit.

It turns out, I might be kind of good at this.

I started getting contacted by companies and businesses wanting my help

in promoting their causes. I started getting paid sponsorships. I even won an

award for being one of the Top 10 Military Mom Bloggers of 2013!

I took more "bloggy breaks" than I had planned due to some unexpected

occurrences in my personal life. But my readers continued to stand by me and

were there when I returned.

I owe a lot to anyone who has come to my blog and read a post, left a comment,

or shared something I wrote on Facebook.

voiceBoks Top 50 Military Mom Blogs of 2013!

I started this blog at the beginning of the year mostly

as a hobby. Something to keep me busy while I'm living

in the middle of nowhere with 3 kids and my husband is half

way around the world. I wasn't expecting much.

Eight months later and blogger opportunities keep landing

in my lap. First I was offered a guest post entry from someone,

then Happify.com contacted me about joining their team, then

another guest post out of Australia (coming soon) and this morning

I woke up to an e-mail notifying me that I was chosen as one of

the Top 50 Military Mom Blogs of 2013!

I'm not sure how this happened. I could have been nominted or

just randomly selected. I didn't apply for it though and it came as

a complete surprise!

I feel so honored!

Will You Be My Best Friend?

Hello lovelies.

So chances are when I go on a huge hiatus from posting, its because

I'm in one of my "lows" as I grieve the loss of my best friend.

I know that's not something that everyone wants to hear or be open

about, but this is my blog and I can tell you whatever I want :)

I'm not going to pretend that its easy missing Sam.

I struggle every day. Just some days are easier than others.

However, this isn't going to be a depressing post.

One of my goals with this blog is to spread positivity to my sweet

readers. I want you to feel happy, inspired, and loved when you visit this page.

I want to do a better job at encouraging you all to be the best you.

And, most importantly, I want to take my own advice and learn to be the best me.

So from now on, you are all my new Best Friends!!

I'm sure most of you already have a BFF, that's ok.

I don't have to be your best friend but you are mine!

I sound really creepy.

I'm hoping I can provide some sort of support for anyone who reads my blog.

You're my best friend and I'm here for you! Whether its helping you figure out what to make

for dinner, or sharing funny things to make you laugh, or giving you advice from my own

personal experiences, I want you to feel cared about and supported when you're here.

So, since you're my Best Friend now, here's 10 facts you probably didn't know about me:

1. I'm not a huge fan of the outdoors.

2. My favorite drink at Starbucks is an iced white mocha.

3. I am obsessed with Mexican food and will wrap anything in a tortilla.

4. I learned Spanish before I learned English because of my Mexican babysitter. (I don't understand it anymore!)

5. I named my blog Kelly Mae because that's what my Auntie always called me (my first and middle name). She passed away in 2009.

6. I used to request the Baby Think It Over dolls in high school because I thought they were fun. (The electronic training babies to show you the not-so-fun side of motherhood.)

7. In 2003 I was a Jr Charger Girl and got to perform at halftime during a Chargers/Bengals game.

8. The whole hashtag thing really annoys me. I wish it didn't because it's everywhere!

9. Full House was my absolute favorite show as a little girl.

10. Some day soon I hope to start school to study psychology.

My Top 5 Favorite Blogs

I follow a lot of blogs but there are a few that I make sure

to never miss a post. I thought I would share my top 5 favorites.

If you feel like being nice, visit their blogs and show them some love!

Favorite Blog #1:

This one is easy :) I've known Becca a long time. We went to school
together. She started blogging around the same time I did and she has
really taken off in the bloggy world. Her posts are always entertaining.
One of my favorite things about her blog is her complete openness and
honesty with her weight loss journey. Not everyone is that brave and I
love being able to cheer her on and witness her progress. I know it is
inspiring to others who are on that same path.

Favorite Blog #2:

I started following this blog around the time my husband deployed
to Okinawa a second time. I love seeing her posts about the island and
what its like to live there. Hopefully I will be able to visit the next time my
husband is sent there, this just gives me a good idea of what to expect.
She is currently blogging about their PCS back to the states. I've never
had to do a PCS this hefty so the process is pretty interesting!

Favorite Blog #3:

I love love love anything Stepford. I feel an automatic connection. I love
reading about her every day life and we have so much in common! The
polish heritage, the love for Real Housewives, I think the only difference is
which coast we're drawn to more (she seems like an East coast girl!). I
think we would be good friends lol

Favorite Blog #4:

This one is very new to my reading list. Like within the past couple of
days. But I'm intrigued! She's an American girl living in France and blogging
about it. As an American girl stuck in America, its so entertaining to read.
I just love the layout and colors of her blog too, it makes me happy. Her posts
are great and she seems to have some pretty good giveaways and link ups to offer.

Favorite Blog #5:

This is a more well-known blog that I've been following for a while. It's ran
by a former elementary school teacher, now stay at home mom, who posts
sooo many great ideas for learning at home. Since I'm homeschooling, I'm
always looking for new, fun ways to get my kids learning. Not only is this blog
SO cute, its a great resource for homeschooling little ones!

Google Reader: Info You Should Know!

I am writing a special Saturday post because I've recently

stumbled upon some information that will really help my fellow bloggers.

We are all so sad to see Google Reader go and have been

diligently working on guiding our followers to Bloglovin' or

some other type of reader service.

Here's the deal...

Google Reader and Google Friend Connect are NOT the same!

You will continue to have your list of followers and your reading

list on your Blogger dashboard.

To see what is leaving us, go to reader.google.com

Chances are you've never even used it. Mine wasn't even set up.

Google Reader is an RSS feed reader similar to Bloglovin' where

you can add all blogs you follow and read them in one place.

When you follow a blog via GFC, that blog is placed in Google Reader

AND your Blogger Reading List. Your Blogger Reading List will still be

there after July 1st, as well as the GFC widget on your blog.

Now, don't be surprised if Google gets rid of GFC next. They are really

trying to get everyone to switch over to Google+ for everything.

But for now, it stays.

I hope this clears up some confusion for you all.

I know I was relieved to learn this!

{1} What is your middle name and do you like it?

My middle name is Mae! (Surprise!) And I actually

really do love my middle name. It was my Grandma's

middle name and I passed it on to my youngest daughter.
{2}Who are you inspired by?

Good moms inspire me. Those moms who seem to have

it all together but are grounded enough to admit their struggles

and faults. It reminds me that we all have challenges but should

continue to strive to do our best for our family.
{3}What is your favorite brand of jeans?

I literally only own 2 pairs of jeans and I have no idea where I

got them lol
{4}Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging because I needed something to do!

I had so many ideas I wanted to share with everyone, I felt

Tv. I love tv. I love books too but I love tv more.

My Questions From Pam

{1} What made you start blogging?

As a stay at home mom and wife, I wanted to find a purpose outside

of these four walls. It is not the right time for me to go to school or work

so I thought I'd give blogging a shot. It turns out I LOVE it!
{2} Who do you admire most?

Am I allowed to say Oprah? :) I absolutely love her and always have.

I just love her story and how she uses her fame and wealth for good causes.
{3} Favorite vacation?

A houseboat at Lake Powell, AZ when I was about 14.

I'm dying to do it again!
{4} Your most admirable trait?

This is such a hard question to answer about yourself lol I would

like to think that I'm selfless. I'm genuinely happy to put others ahead of myself.
{5} Sweats or Dresses?

I've got to say dresses :) I love getting dressed up. That is when I

feel most confident.
{6} Dogs or Cats?

Dogs. My answer would not have been the same if you had

asked me 7 years ago ;)
{7} What is your favorite thing to do with friends?

Grabbing starbucks and chatting. We do this regularly and always

end up laughing and having a great time. It's good for my soul.
{8} Grilling or Crockpot-ing?

If I'm doing the cooking, crock pot. If someone else is doing it, grill.
{9} Tell us your favorite Sports team?

San Diego Chargers! I bleed blue and gold.
{10} How many states have you lived in?

2, California and North Carolina
{11} Since these are all military spouses, favorite thing you LOVE about being a milspouse?

I love so much about this lifestyle. I think my favorite part is the sisterhood

among wives. Complete strangers become family so fast and support one another

in ways no one else can understand. I don't know what I would do without these ladies!

My 11 Random Facts

I hate strawberries.
I was the statistician for my high school football team and walked the sidelines in heels.
Pit Bulls are my favorite breed of dogs. I believe in them.
I want to be a surrogate mother someday.
I love to cook but I suck at baking.
I forget to take the trash out to the street every week and end up going out in my pajamas when I hear the truck coming. That's usually Andrew's job.
I overuse the words "like" and "omg" when I talk.
I could live off of Redbull and coffee...I probably really couldn't, but in my dreams it would be possible.
I love people and laughing and making others happy.
I've had asthma almost my entire life and have to take medication every day for it.
My favorite color is pink!
